About Me

- Name: Alvah Buckmore, Jr.,
- Location: Westfield, Massachusetts, United States
I am a service-connected disabled veteran from the Vietnam War. Over the years I have run into a variety of problems with the VA staff, including problems of their trying to interpret my behavior within the framework of psychiatry [part of the VA hospital where I must go is a psychiatric institution](some staff members seem to think everyone is a psychiatric patient). I have had experiences of nurses and doctors either confusing me with other patients or falsifying a diagnosis of my condition. I have to be very careful. My file is a mess! Sometimes a doctor, perhaps a recent immigrant from another country, with poor proficiency in the English language, would have a serious problem of communications with his patients, such as the time a Filipino doctor misunderstood my description of constipation and, with tears in his eyes, told me it was time for me to prepare for my "maker." Then again, sometimes my experience can be very pleasant!
